What is Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling with PRP, also known as the 'Vampire Facial', is a very popular facial rejuvenation treatment in aesthetic medicine due to the incredible results it can offer. Microneedling is also referred to as collagen induction therapy and involves piercing the skin with tiny needles, stimulating the body's wound healing response to produce collagen and elastin to improve lines, wrinkles, scars and pigmentation. 'PRP' is platelet-rich plasma. Platelets and plasma are the body's own powerful healing tools. Extracted by spinning a small sample of the patient's blood in a centrifuge, when applied to the skin PRP sets to work expertly repairing and renewing.

Incorporating PRP with microneedling enhances the effects of the treatment as the incredible restorative power of the PRP works in conjunction with the wound healing process from the microneedling leading to more rapid results. Applying PRP can also improve healing after a microneedling treatment, reducing redness and swelling post-treatment.

What skin conditions/issues does Microneedling with PRP treat?

Microneedling with PRP is an ideal treatment for surgical scars, acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, sun damage, large pores and uneven skin texture. It can be performed on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and body and is suitable for all skin types.

Why 'SkinPen Precision' Microneedling?

At Dorset Aesthetics we use the SkinPen Precision microneedling device. SkinPen Precision is a very safe microneedling device that uses a single use cartridge and bio-sheath for each treatment to ensure absolutely no cross-contamination. With microneedling, the more tiny skin punctures a microneedling device is able to produce, the more effective the results. Each cartridge contains 14 highly durable Japanese stainless steel needles that produce 98,000 channels per minute, as opposed to approximately 21,000 from a traditional derma roller. As the needles are so durable they create less trauma to the skin, resulting in less downtime than with other microneedling devices on the market.

Why 'Cellenis' PRP Centrifuge?

Dorset Aesthetics uses the Cellenis PRP centrifuge as its safety and efficacy are supported by many clinical studies and it has medical CE and FDA approval. Cellenis delivers exceptional, high-quality PRP, resulting in the best possible treatment outcomes in skin rejuvenation.
SkinPen Precision Microneedling combined with Cellenis PRP offers exceptional safety and efficacy with FDA and Medical CE approval and, as the Cellenis centrifuge removes all of the red blood cells which are not useful in PRP, thankfully the 'vampire' part of the facial and those photos that spring to mind from Instagram are not what's on offer at Dorset Aesthetics!

What happens during a Microneedling with PRP treatment?

Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 30 minutes, during which time a blood sample is taken, just like at the GP surgery. The blood sample is then spun in the centrifuge for 10 minutes to allow the PRP to separate from the red and white blood cells. The skin is then disinfected and treatment begins with a test patch to determine skin reaction and tolerance levels. The SkinPen is then moved across the skin, area by area, in vertical and horizontal movements to ensure every area is treated thoroughly. The PRP is applied throughout and at the end of the treatment. Treatment time is approximately 60 minutes.

Is PRP Microneedling painful?

The procedure is usually well tolerated due to the very superficial injections and numbing cream applied before the procedure. As PRP comes from your own body or is self-sourced (autologous), adverse reactions are rare.

What results will I see?

Your skin will feel glowing and radiant after the initial healing has taken place. The full effects will be noticed around 4-6 weeks as cells regenerate.

How many PRP Miconeedling sessions are required for great results?

You will see an improvement in after just one or two microneedling treatments however, for deeper lines, scarring, stretch-marks and pigmentation a course of 3-6 treatments will be recommended, one every 4-6 weeks.

What is the recovery time following PRP Microneedling?

-
For the first few days after treatment your skin is likely to feel red, hot, stingy and tight, like a moderate sunburn. You may have some bruising, and may also experience some swelling, particularly around the eye area.
-
The skin may flake or peel post-treatment. This is part of the skin rejuvenation process. Depending on the condition of the skin prior to treatment, this may be quite noticeable and last for around a week. It is important not to pick or peel the skin as this may cause scarring or pigmentation.
-
Any pigmentation may darken post-treatment before showing improvement.
-
You may wish to schedule your treatment to coincide with a day or two away from work and social events. You will be given detailed aftercare advice following the procedure. It is important to follow the aftercare advice carefully to aid the wound healing process and to prevent any excessive inflammation post-procedure.
-
You will be given a complimentary tube of Skinfuse RESCUE Calming Complex to take home with you to be used from the day after the procedure. Containing Oatmeal, Vitamin B3, Aloe Vera, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper and Hyaluronic Acid, this soothing cream reduces inflammation and redness and promotes skin cell rejuvenation and healing.
